AW Fraser is a well-established manufacturing business with over 80 years of success, producing engineered bronze products used globally. We have a strong presence in New Zealand and are backed by international ownership. We are known for our strong team culture, engineering excellence, and continued growth.

We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead and continuously improve Health & Safety across our Christchurch manufacturing operation.

About the role

This is a senior, hands-on role working closely with the Operations Manager and the wider leadership team to embed best-practice Health & Safety. You’ll play a key role in preventing workplace injury and illness, while building and maintaining a strong, positive safety culture.

Operating within a 24/7 production environment, this role requires a visible on-site presence and some flexibility to engage across shifts (including occasional early starts or later finishes). Some home working may also be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading Health & Safety across the business
  • Developing and improving H&S systems, processes, and initiatives
  • Provide reporting to the Board and senior leadership
  • Coaching and influencing leaders to embed H&S into daily operations
  • Incident investigation, reporting, and continuous improvement
  • Overseeing return-to-work and health monitoring programmes
  • Leading inductions, training, and ongoing education
  • Hazard identification, risk management, and compliance
  • Supporting H&S Committee activities
  • Providing reporting to senior leadership

About you

  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar Health & Safety role (manufacturing or industrial preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of NZ Health & Safety legislation and best practice
  • Able to operate both strategically and hands-on in a busy environment
  • Proven ability to influence, coach, and build strong relationships
  • Confident working with senior leaders

What we offer:

  • Competitive salary aligned with the market
  • A senior role with real impact
  • A stable and growing business
  • Supportive, close-knit team environment
  • Variety and challenge in a dynamic production setting
